Bitange Ndemo

Prof. Bitange Ndemo is a technology enthusiast and an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Nairobi’s Business School. His research centers on the link between ICTs and small -and medium-sized enterprises in Kenya with an emphasis on inclusive innovations and how ICTs influence economic development in Kenya. He is the immediate former Permanent Secretary of Kenya’s Ministry of Information and Communication in Kenya, where he was credited with facilitating many transformative ICT projects. He is an Open Data/Big Data evangelist and dedicated to the simplification (visualisation) of data for ordinary citizens to consume.

Betty Enyonam Kumahor is currently the Managing Partner of The Cobalt Partners; a business consulting firm focused on solving business challenges using design thinking, modern management techniques, problem solving, skills and productivity tools. Ms. Kumahor has been selected among illustrious group of leaders as a Young Global Leader (YGL) 2015 by the World Economic Forum (WEF). She previously worked as the Regional Managing Director for Thoughtworks in Africa. Before then, she was the Global Advisory Technology Leader & West Africa IT Advisory Leader at Ernst & Young. Olunseun Onigbinde | Co-Founder BudgIT, Open Data Champion


Oluseun Onigbinde is a graduate of Electrical / Electronics Engineering from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. Oluseun has sound experiences in data visualisation, analytics, strategy and business development while working with two of Nigeria’s leading banks. Being a firm adherent of open data and how it guarantees a transparency and initiates communities to action, he co-founded a civic startup in Nigeria named BudgIT. BudgIT, founded in 2011 during a technology bootcamp organized by Co-Creation Hub uses technologies of any form that appeal across every literacy span to make public data more accessible, transparent and understandable to Nigerians and great people of the world. BudgIT also provides infographics, visualisation and data comprehension support to citizens, civil society organisations and public institutions. Rose Shuman | Founder of Question Box, TED Fellow


Rose Shuman is an experienced technology & data consultant with focus on developing world contexts, an ICT nonprofit founder, a TED Fellow and a Senior Fellow at the USC Marshall School Society and Business Laboratory. She publishes widely in development, governance and business innovation publications. Rose is on the UK Guardian newspaper’s Global Development Advisory Panel. Rose has a strong understanding of analytics, as well as extensive communication and facilitation experience with cross-functional stakeholders, both internal and external. She is interested and involved in solving operational challenges and interpreting them in the context of data and digital technology products and strategies. Rose is an effective bridge between disparate stakeholders, experienced in articulating the value of data, data driven business methodologies, and ICT solutions, as well as the importance of maintaining a focus on the local environments data is sourced from, and that data-based decisions affect.

Daudi Khamadi | Human Rights Activist, Director of Programmes at Ushahidi


Daudi Khamadi Were is a Kenyan technology strategist, human rights defender and social activist based in Nairobi. Daudi works as the Director of Programmes at Ushahidi; a technology company born in Africa that specializes in developing free and open source software for information collection, visualization and interactive mapping.
Daudi spends most of his time working on innovative ways technology can be used to bring about positive change in communities across the world. Such as projects that empower citizens to monitor elections, tools to track the efficient use of resources, tools to collect information from those directly affected by a disaster or crisis, tools to visualise and map a large amount of crowd sourced data.

Linet Kwamboka | Founder and CEO of DataScience LTD

LinetLinet Kwamboka is the Founder and CEO of DataScience LTD, a Research and Analytics company that builds information systems that help institutions gain insights from data for better strategic planning, resource allocation and targeted client reach. She is on the forefront of coordinating the Kenya Open Data for the Government of Kenya, recently recognized as a Global Open Data Champion by the ODI Bloomberg open data awards. She was previously at the World Bank (World Bank Spot Award recipient). Linet has been a Software Engineer at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. She has an under-graduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi with a keen focus on the awareness of using good data for business intelligence, decision-making and resource allocation. She is a recognized unsung hero by the American Embassy in Kenya in her efforts to encourage more women into the technology and computing space.
